Sudden Oak Death Blitz

A Sudden Oak Death (SOD) Blitz (survey) is planned for the South Skyline area the weekend of May 13 - 15, 2011. SOD is a serious issue in our area! Please join! The survey is intended to help our community identify locations where SOD is present as well as increase local awareness of the issue. It is funded by the USDA Forest Service and various other agencies, and sponsored by South Skyline Association (SSA) in cooperation with Dr. Matteo Garbelotto, UC Berkeley. The area we’ll cover is the Skyline region from the Skywood area to Bear Creek Road.  For more details, please read this flyer

South Skyline Firesafe Council

The South Skyline Firesafe Council was formed to help the community reduce the risk and impact of a wildfire, and help protect our houses from this danger.  The council has created this flier about the Firesafe program.

South Skyline now on Facebook

We have added a new resource for the South Skyline Association on Facebook.

South Skyline Fire & Rescue Website

Company 29 has been working on a number of improvements to the South Skyline Fire & Rescue website recently. There's a link to a description of the Las Cumbres station remodel (with the obligatory request for money). The Donate link goes somewhere now, though we don't have PayPal hooked up yet. We've added a 'Join our Team' link which describes the requirements for signing up, the 'Help Us Help You' link now goes to a page with some handy tips based on the column from the last Skylines newsletter.

We have not had time to update the photo gallery, however we have at least picked out the pictures to use and will do this soon.

Take a look and let us know what you think and if you have any suggestions.

Motorcycle Watch

In our ongoing effort to get some semblance of control over speeding motorcycles, we are posting the phone number to use to report motorcycles that are speeding or exhibiting other abhorrent behaviors (e.g. too loud).  If you witness a motorcycle that is operating outside the law, please call the CHP reporting line at:

    800-TELL CHP (835-5247)

Yahoo Group formed for South Skyline

A YahooGroup exists for the south Skyline region. It is not affiliated with South Skyline Association (SSA) and you do not have to be an SSA member to join it; although many of the participants are SSA members. To join the SouthSkyline YahooGroup, send a BLANK message to:

Yellow Starthistle

Expect mid-June to be near the time for whacking YST.  If you are trying to reduce YST on or around your property, you should be getting ready.  We have collected information on the noxious weed commonly referred to as Yellow Star Thistle.  We now have a quick primer on it, and numerous links to agencies and groups that have studied it and/or have programs for eradicating it.
