Signing up for auto-renew. With this option you need not worry about your membership lapsing. With PayPal, once it is set up you are set for the long term.

If you use a credit card you will auto-renew until the card expires or is otherwise revoked or replaced.

In any case, you will be notified of the impending auto-pay before the renewal date(Jan 1) and again when the payment is processed.

You will be notified of the amount and success or failure of the payment at that time.
